College Admission Comparison

College admission comparison is an important part of preparing for higher education. Before you begin the application process you should create a spreadsheet or other document on which you record information about preferred schools. The very first step is to decide which schools you want to apply to. It is recommended that you choose five if at all possible. At the least, every student should have a top three. Getting into your first choice is not guaranteed, which is why having backup choices is so important.

Your comparison of the schools may include basic information like population, location, top academic programs, tuition cost and application details. Most colleges will require an application, admissions essay, letters of recommendation and academic transcripts. The application is a basic document with your personal information and education history. The admissions essay is an essay that talks about who you are, your areas of interest, your achievements and accomplishments, and your college and career goals. Letters of recommendation are written by mentors, counselors, teachers, employers and others who can vouch for your character as an outstanding student and member of your community. Academic transcripts are of course your grades.

All of these items play an important part in the application and admission process. These materials are reviewed by the admissions office and a decision is made as to whether or not you are accepted. Whether you are accepted or rejected, you will receive a letter in the mail. The waiting period for this letter is a stressful time for many students. However, if you've done your best and given yourself adequate preparation time you may find yourself more confident when waiting to hear back from the schools you've applied to. Even if you don't get into your first choice you may get into your second or third.

College admission comparison can help you keep track of what each school requires. You also need to keep track of the deadlines associated with college applications. Many schools have only a period of a few months during which applications for admittance and scholarships will be accepted. If your application reaches the admissions office too late, it will not be considered which means all your hard work will have been for nothing. There are some schools that have open admission, which means your application can be submitted anytime throughout the year.
