College Admission Process New York
|
The college admission process New York is the same as anywhere else. You will need to take the SAT or ACT, fill out an application, write an admissions essay, obtain letters of recommendation and send in your transcripts. The college application package can be daunting for a student to put together. That is why so many students begin this process starting in the second half of their junior year in high school. If you wait too long to begin preparing for college you may find yourself rushing at the last minute or missing important deadlines.
The admissions essay is a very important part of the application process. While your transcripts demonstrate your academic prowess, your admissions essay demonstrates more about who you are. The admissions officers get a better idea of your personality, what you've accomplished and what your future goals are. There are two main types of admission essays that you may need to write. One is the general essay that is broad in scope. The other is a more specific essay that may be written in response to a question or questions asked.
Letters of recommendation can be obtained from teachers, mentors, counselors and employers. These letters should talk about your strong points, your accomplishments and why you would make an ideal student at the school for which you are applying. Then there's the financial aid process. If you don't come up with the money to pay for college you aren't going. Luckily there are multiple ways to do this. Student loans can be obtained from the government, public lenders and private lenders. Grants are sums of money that never need to be paid back. Scholarships are monetary awards for tuition expenses. These programs can help most every deserving student pay for their education.
If you need help with the college admission process New York advisors can help you. A good advisor or counselor can assist you with the application procedure from start to finish. Students who need help writing their admissions and/or scholarship essays may want to hire a tutor who can help them be more confident and effective writers. If you need financial help, the financial aid office at the college you are attending or the U.S. Department of Education can be a good starting point.
