College Admissions Statistics

There are certain college admission statistics that you may want to know about when preparing for the college application process. One area where statistics can help you is when it comes to your chances of attending an Ivy League School. The Ivy League consists of eight universities in the northeastern portion of the United States. They are as follows: Brown University in Rhode Island, Columbia University in New York, Cornell University in Ithaca New York, Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, Harvard University in Massachussetts, Princeton University in New Jersey, Yale University in Connecticut and the University of Pennsylvania.

These eight schools are considered the best of the best. The rates associated with these schools demonstrate exactly how stringent admissions requirements are. Brown University has an acceptance rate of 13.5 percent. Out of all the students accepted to Brown, 94 percent of them are in the top ten of their graduating class. Compared to Brown, Cornell is slightly easier to get into because its acceptance rate is around 20 percent. The most challenging school to gain admittance to is Harvard, followed by Yale and Princeton. Only around 9 percent of applicants are accepted to Harvard. The University of Pennsylvania and Dartmouth have acceptance rates of 15.9 and 14 percent respectively.

Maybe you are not planning to attend an Ivy League school. Even so, learning the important statistics related to the school of your choice can help you. Another thing that can help you is the right guidance from a college advisor or counselor. Your high school guidance counselor can be a great starting point if you are preparing for college. There are also college advisors at universities who can help you learn more about the college application process. They can teach you about how the whole process works and answer any questions you may have.

Finding out more about college admissions statistics is only one part of gaining entry into the college of your choice. You will also need to fill out an application and submit an admissions essay. The admissions essay tells the college more about who you are, what you've accomplished and what you want to accomplish. In addition to this essay, your application package will also contain your high school transcripts and letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, employers and other individuals who can vouch for your character, academic performance and future potential.
